Visovac = ❤️

 Tuesday: Zadar - Krka National Park - Trogir - Split

We slept in a little bit this morning and hubby went out for pastries and coffee.  Bok Bok, Zadar.  

Now off to Krka national park and Visovac Monastery. The road to Krka was similar to the road to Plitvice - winding mountain roads.  So Heather went into car mode, which is basically, well first Dramamine, and to a side fetal position curled on travel pillow and hat over the head, eyes shut.  The hubs gives a play-by-play of the outdoor scenery which sounded about like this:

“watch out for Bour/Bear/Cow/Goat/Frog” 

Yup, frog.  🐸 

“Oh, too bad you can’t see this.”

Etc.  

We made a scenic overlook stop to view the monastery we were visiting. 

THIS

This was literally the ONE thing I begged to do.  Monks living on their own little island in the middle of a lake. It was beautiful.  Also, it’s 103 degrees (F) today.  It was definitely a good call to skip our waterfall hike. This park pass was an expensive one, so it’s a shame we didn’t take full advantage of it.  I don’t want to get heat stroke either though…. 🥵

It took us a minute to figure out the most efficient way to the island.  The options were like a 2 hr boat tour including hikes and swimming opportunities but then we found out that this other boat does a quick trip.  Perfect.  5 min boat ride. 45 mins on the island to explore and 5 mins back. 

I am so enamored by this island.    It reminded me of that old computer game, Myst. I wanted to explore every nook and find little clues and solve puzzles.  The most whimsical setting I’ve ever seen.  

Gorgeous foliage.  Peacocks.  Church and museum. Living quarters.  A gift shop.  A basketball goal (even monks need recreational exercise). 

In the museum, there was a room in tribute to the war damage from 1991 to surrounding monasteries and churches, as well as memorial to the humans who worked there.  And lots of old Franciscan artifacts, which I can’t tell much about now but plan to look up later. 

After our beautiful boat ride back to our car, we headed to a delicious konobo for lunch.  We had a huge meal of lamb, fried potatoes, grilled vegetables, vegetable risotto, and WATER.  This could’ve fed the family sitting behind us. We will eat light for dinner tonight, haha. 

Then we headed for a brief stop in Trogir.  Officially in Dalmatia land at this point.  All cities on the water from here on out.  Visited one church and a soccer stadium built within a fortress structure right on the water front.  Pretty neat.  It is the summer of soccer after all. 

Then we headed to the Split airport to turn in our car, Opal. Bye bye. Got an Uber to our hotel/apartment in Split. Another spacious two room with kitchenette.  

Good heavens, it started to rain. Hallelujah.  Thunder, lightening, and cooler temperatures.  We located laundry close to our hotel to drop off. Will drop another load off in the morning because we were at the end of their day.  Went to the grocery for a light dinner.  Went back to pick up our laundry.  Then did a brief walk thru Diocletian’s palace and the Riva and talked thru our plans tomorrow, all day in Split.   

And to bed, I said. Want to start early before the heat and crowds tomorrow.
